Freshmen chemistry teachers' ability to perform chemistry calculations
Frolíková, Markéta ; Rusek, Martin (advisor) ; Chroustová, Kateřina (referee)
This thesis deals with the study of skill sets which the students acquired prior to attending the Faculty of Education at Charles University, specifically the Department of Chemistry and Chemistry Education, and how their knowledge of the subject improved after attending the Chemistry Calculations course, specifically in the 2020/2021 winter semester. In the first part of this thesis, where the theoretical standpoints are established, the thesis deals with the research of chemistry calculations wherein, for example, the students' issues regarding these calculations are outlined. Additionally, this part includes the includes the position of chemical calculations inside curriculum documents (RVP ZV, RVP G and RVP SOV) and how they are accepted and used directly in elementary and high schools. The second, practical, part studies the students' ability to solve chemical calculations after attending high school. The study was carried out by entrance exams. Not only was the success rate observed, but also the reasons of success or failure were examined. In the subsequent section of the study, a similar entrance exam was given out to students who have attended the Chemistry Calculations course, which delivered insight into whether the course improved the knowledge of the students on this subject. Proposal of chemical experiments suitable for secondary school education
Böckl, Tomáš ; Petrželová, Simona (advisor) ; Teplá, Milada (referee)
The most enjoyable part of Chemistry as a subject in High school was, is, and always will be working in a laboratory, where all experiments are performed by the pupils. Chemical experiments with an easily accessible raw material such as pills of Spirulina and Chlorella are expected to increase the interest of students. For this Bachelor's work, experiments were designed and the task was performed utilizing commercial sources of Spirulina and Chlorella, which are sold as food supplements and considered to be superfoods nowadays due to their high protein content. In this Bachelor's work attention is paid to the pigments that Spirulina and Chlorella contain. The main topic of this work are pigments, which are mentioned in the context of Organic Chemistry lessons in the RVP G documents. First, experiments with these pigments were performed, namely their extraction with various solvents and chromatography. Subsequently, it was determined by HPLC and UV-Vis spectroscopy which pigments are extracted with which solvent. Based on these results, materials suitable for teaching chemistry at secondary schools were created, especially on the topic of separation methods and polarity of substances. Two laboratory works suitable for the IBSE teaching method were proposed, as well as a worksheet Keywords:...
Integrated Science Education and History of Science in Chemistry Education
Šíba, Michal
The present dissertation Integrated Science Education and History of Science in Chemistry Education is aimed at the problem of integrating scientific subjects by means of natural history. The thesis contains research concerned with integrating science education in its various forms and its analysis from the point of valid curricular documents. Results of a questionnaire on intersubject integration distributed among grammar school chemistry teachers are presented in the thesis. Further on, an approach to the integration by means of natural history is presented. Didactic materials were created on this topic: worksheets and didactic tests in Adobe Flash. Worksheets were attested in grammar school teaching and results of this attestation are included. The thesis also includes results of two projects aimed at the topic of natural history. These projects are: History of Natural Sciences in High School Teacher Education (Fund for the development of higher education in the Czech Republic, 2011) and a course called Alchymistic Prague (Developmental project of the Ministry of Education, 2011: Chemistry year - Chemistry for all).
Didactic software for chemistry education at the ISCED 2 level
Sadykov, Timur ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (advisor) ; Havlíček, David (referee) ; Svoboda, Lubomír (referee)
1 ABSTRACT The current chemistry education solves problems related primarily to the setting of the curriculum contents, which would be professionally correct, appropriately extensive, and at the same time connected with current aspects of life in modern society, and to problems of teaching strategies that would stimulate the students into an interest in science and commitment to it. The main goal of this dissertation is to create an educational website with an interactive chemistry course for lower secondary schools (ISCED 2) and verify its effectiveness in school practice. The first part of the dissertation describes methods of interactive chemistry teaching supporting the increase of the students' cognitive activity and the effectiveness of the learning process using ICT. The second part characterizes the chemistry course thus created and lists various ways to apply interactive teaching in it. Our interactive course contains a total of 14 thematic units, each with 2-6 subthemes. All themes are processed with respect to the practical application of the subject matter using the listed interactive education methods. This course was tested in 2018-2020 during chemistry lessons in Kazakhstan and Czech Republic, and the students' opinions toward interactive teaching in this study were tested using a simple...

Didactic educational games for chemistry in our and foreign publications
Reslová, Marie ; Šulcová, Renata (advisor) ; Zákostelná, Barbora (referee)
RESLOVÁ, M.: Didactic educational games for chemistry in our and foreign publications. Bachelor theses. Prague: Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Science, Department of Teaching and Didactics of Chemistry, 2013. This work focus on research of educational games for teaching chemistry in our and foreign publications. The term didactic educational game includes both games (crosswords, quizzes, card games and more) that only serve to repeat and consolidate the subject matter. In addition, this category includes various tasks, enabling students to understand some chemical laws that they can not easily imagine. In these tasks, subjects from the micro world are replaced by models from the macro world. Students working with models, understand and in some cases derives selected chemical laws - this is called inqury-based education. Didactic educational games belongs among the modern methods of activation which could work with student's experience.

Support material for teaching NMR spectroscopy at secondary schools
Tomanová, Marie ; Tošner, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Hrubý, Martin (referee)
Nuclear magnetic resonance is an important, irreplaceable and very common method used in chemistry and medicine. From this perspective, it is highly desirable to implement NMR spectroscopy into high school education. But unfortunately there is not enough material in the Czech language, which would correspond to a high school student's level of knowledge. This thesis looks at creating support materials for teaching NMR spectroscopy and the possibilities of its implementation into high school education. For this purpose, following materials were prepared: an educational text, tests and a database of measured spectra (appendix on CD). Materials were tested in the form of a directed interview and then modified according to the results. This testing confirmed that the text is clear, motivating, and that this topic would be appreciated by both students and teachers. The materials will be available for teachers and high school students at the educational portal studiumchemie.cz. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Model of creating motivational items for use in non-chemical vocational schools
Rusek, Martin ; Pumpr, Václav (advisor) ; Dušek, Bohuslav (referee)
TITLE: Model of creating motivational items for use in non-chemical vocational schools SUMMARY: Presently, there have been significant reforms in the field of education in progress in the Czech Republic. Among others, formerly valid educational standards are being replaced by new standards - Framework Educational Programmes. They have also become effective for secondary schools since 1st September 2009. One of the changes is an addition of science based subjects (thus also chemistry) to all the framework educational programmes for every field of study in vocational schools. Hence, the number of pupils who will be taught science has grown comparing to the previous years. As it was confirmed by an inquiry made for the purposes of this thesis, the above mentioned group of pupils represents the majority among pupils in secondary schools. It was important to analyze the learning environment at non-chemical vocational schools, in order to support as effective utilization of learning units assigned for this schools as possible. For this purpose, there were several surveys run. Out of the results, it is possible to imply that the learning environments at non-chemical vocational schools and grammar schools are very different. Therefore it is important to perform the chemistry based education at non-chemical...
